Datation de l'Orgue Estey
AOD, EAB,NP fyi (look at the blog)
Hello Andre Lefrere in La Possonniere, France ~
I am sorry it has taken so long to reply to your inquiry from August.
We did receive your inquiry and enjoyed looking at your blog. You certainly
have a large collection, and you have done a good job of displaying and
recording the collection online.
To find the serial number for an Estey reed organ, you need to remove
the top or the back panel to look inside. The number should be stamped in red
on a paper label, and for this instrument it should be a six digit number. Sometimes
the number is also stamped in the wood, and sometimes no number can be found.
Your Estey appears to be a Style B from around 1901-04. You can find
a listing and picture for this style on the website of Robert F. Gellerman, Historian
for the Reed Organ Society. The website is www.reedorgan.info. Click on to the database
and enter the registry number 2353 for the search. This will show you this instrument with
a high top and mirror. The top and mirror are missing from your instrument. This
could be because the organ was sold without the top or because the top has been
separated and lost. Either is possible.
Gellerman says that there is a fifteen stop action shown for this instrument
in a 1906 catalog as follows: BASS: Melodia, Dolce, Viola, Viola Dolce, Harp Aeolienne,
Sub-Bass, Bass Coupler. TREBLE: Diapason, Dulciana, Flute, Vox Jubilante,
Bourdon, Treble coupler, Forte, and Vox Humana.
You have an interesting collection, and it is interesting that it should include an
Estey American reed organ.
We hope you find this helpful.
